Artist Statement

We were both art majors in college, and we enjoy making things. We began building furniture by using the organic shapes that we found in nature. As our skills improved, we started to imagine shapes, and then bend the wood into them. Eventually the shapes that we came up with seemed almost impossible to construct, but we relish the challenges of figuring out how to make them. We use our engineering minds to determine the strength and feasibility of every possible solution. We use our artist minds to create a sense of fluid movement as the pieces twist and turn through three dimensions. In our work, we attempt to create functional pieces of sculpture—objects that can stand alone aesthetically, and that also serve a purpose.
